Exiting Freshwater Fish ?

well. i dont think i can be bothered with the hastle of a saltwater tank. but i want some exiting fish and invertebrates in my tank. what are the best things to go for ? cleanup crew wise ? and actual fish ?

clean up crews, depends on what your what to be cleaned up

you cant beat corys in a large shoal, very active and dont hide so much
armoured catfish are the best for clean up crews, fantastic characters and always on the go and very funny to watch

shoaling fish give excellent displays, just brought some more dwarf rainbows to add to my existing shoal, wonderful colours very playful, shoal perfectly but eat like pigs.

i really want a couple of shrimps ? whats the best option in freshwater ? and how many fish should i be looking at with a 23 USG tank ? how many makes a shoal ? ive only ever had about 7 of one type of fish before ?

ive been told amano shrimp are the best for freshwater which is what im looking into my self. How many is something i also need to know.

Amano shrimps are great little things (though I know kajones will not agree). They will be more active/visible if you keep them in a group of maybe 4-5 (or more).

GET some Bettas!! they dont even seem like fish! there always greeting you. o i love them!

I don't think bettas should be an option because you'd lose lots of other options.
How about a tetra tank?
