I have one of these fish, and I have read that they will eat about anything (living & moving) that they can get their mouths around. I was wondering, does this include snails of any or all types? Assuming of course that their shells are small enough.
Also, I've read on some places that they are efficient hunters, and others saying that they have to drop food directly in front of them to get them to eat it. I do know they operate on sense of smell and have poor eyesight. Also, does anyone know how fast they grow? I've seen it at up to 12" in a year. Also, are they bad about jumping out of tanks? I've also read this, but I think it may have been intended for other Bichir family-members. If anyone can confirm any of this, it would be great.

They are closely related to Bichirs and share the same traits, they are predators but are poorly sighted and it can take them I while to sense out some food so you have to make sure they get feed. They can reach up to 36" and as with Bichirs they are pretty fast growers, they aren't known for eating snails but the odd soft shelled small snail may be consumed but not often enough to affect any population of snails. A nice unique fish that is well worth keeping if you can accomadate them.
