Okay, I have recently decided to get an emperor filter for my 36 gallon brackish tank. I know that my GSP is a very messy eater, and it has been said to majorly overfilter their tanks because they are so messy. So, my question is will the emperor 280 be sufficient for keeping my tank clean, or should I get the emperor 400?

Thanks...

Yes, overfilter and do regular water changes. With messy fish, overfiltering mostly helps you keep up, not slack on water changes.

with messy fish id rather go with two medium sized filters. it will keep the water flowing better and will keep the bottom cleaner.

Overfiltering is always better then underfiltering. Also if you can afford to go bigger, I would. It will save you in the long run also. I have an Emperor 400 and I love it! :good: :good:

It seems like a bit overkill to me though. I looked on marineland's website and they claim that the 280 is appropriate for up to 50 gallon aquariums while mine is but a 37. So that seems like about what I need, or should I not trust marineland's word. After all, you guys are the ones with experience. Also, I have heard that the 400's are noisy, it might be just a rumor though.

in the end its all up to you. the 280 should be good for what your doing.

400's are not noisy. The only thing that might be noisy could be when the water level is not up to the outflow area and you hear the water from the filter hitting the tank water.
