Have just ordered eheim 2126 thermofilter which comes with free media. There seems to be so many different filter media for eheims how will I know if what it comes with is the right ones? I'm going to keep Malawi's if that makes any difference.

Also haven't quite worked out how to swap my filters over without flooding the place so any advice on that would be appreciated. Thanks.

I run 2 Eheim Pro II 2026 (same filter w/o the heater). One is loaded with the Efi medias- noodles below and rocks above. But I also run extra floss pads in the top. The second uses sponges below and bio rocks above and again extra floss pads. Both are prefiltered using the Filter Max Pre-Filter #3.

There is no limit to what you can use for media depending on your specific tank's needs. Bio balls, sponges, Efi media etc etc all will work.

you don't have to stick with eheims media
you can put whatever you like in there.

I'm gonna set a malawi tanks soon and here is my planed cannister media
Sera siporax® (the best bio-media on the market), eheim substrate pro, course sponge/fine sponge, coral gravel (for ph buffering) and floss

It doesn't seem to make sense tho buying more media when it comes included with the filter does it? I'm assuming that what it comes with will be ok or maybe I'm wrong.
