Nice pics. Is that Cairo or Luxor or a mixture of both?

I was in Egypt in October and it was Fab. It was a little place on the Red Sea Riviera called El Gouna, about 30 minutes from Hurghada.

It was too far away from any of the pyramids and things so I didn't get to see those.

Lovely country and i'd defo go back. So so hot!!!

Maybe i'll post some of my pics up too. :good:

BTT

looks ace :)

my folks are going over xmas - and ive demanded pics of the pyramids..... i would be invited if i wasnt terrifiedof flying........ :(

I started in luxour and travelled up the nile to aswan, filae, abu simbal, an lots of other bits of their countryside i cant remember the names.

then returned to luxour and flew to cairo to visit the zoo, egyptian museum and pyramids.

Its a very beautiful place and the people are amazing. I was ill when i went so i hate the pics of me in, i think i look awful!

definately worth a visit - the countryside is a lot nicer then the main city's - cairo wasnt terribly pleasant., but thats the same in any country! the countryside is always more appealing.

i would love to see some of your pictures BTT

:good:

am I the only one confused about the nile croc in the bathtub?

Hi tahneen

The nile crocodile in the bathtub was in a house in a small traditional nubian village.
The nubian people still believe in a lot of the egyptian history.
The nile crocodile is represented as a god in egyptian culture - this was to try and please the god of the nile crocodiles to stop the crocodiles attacking villagers and their livestock.
However when the aswan dam was built by russian's, they forgot to make the dam crocodile friendly. so sadly there are no crocodiles in the nile itself they are all in lake nasa.
The nubian villagers go each season and collect a baby nile croc from the lake they keep it in their bath tub feeding it up in an attempt to please the crocodile god. When the croc is too big for the bath tub it is taken back to the lake and a new baby is collected.

This is also done by some of the nubians as an attraction for tourists. However the nubian villages are very remote - and only reached by small sailing boats or camels accross the sahara so it tends to only be the traditionalist nubians that keep the crocs.

hope thats the query solved!

looks like you had a fab time, also looks a very intresting place and i bet it would be hot over there get a good tan hehe!!

nice pics again hun!

Nice pics. Egypt seems nice. Was the flight expensive?

The flights were more pricey than the trip - Egypt is becoming very popular at the moment and for all the right reasons, if you go to the right places - the culture is amazing, the scenery delightful and the people are very friendly.

I went in early November and it was boiling over there - i deliberately did catch a nice tan! civicr

i would tell everyone to visit Egypt but i would say visit the countryside and stay close to the Nile.....Cairo was not particularly nice and i would hate that to be the only part of Egypt people saw - if i had only seen Cairo i would of hated it.

That's what I thought but i'm sure it is still worth it. I'll remember to see more than just Cairo if I make it out there. My plan is to go to China or Japan first.

Hiya
I am all booked to go to egypt next month for two weeks.

Where would you recommend going in egypt? (to eat/stay/sights seeing?)

I am starting in sharm el sheikh and then travelling to aswan and luxor then on to cairo and then back to sharm. Maybe I should avoid cairo?
Did you take any travel books with you?

i didnt go to sharm el sheikh myself i was told it is very touristy and white sandy beaches and stuff, aswan is the countryside to egypt it is a beautiful place and so is luxor - clear blue skys - remember sun cream, the locals are however not as well educated in tourist etiquette and will grab you push you and try to keep you in their shops - the best option is to never make eye contact unless you really want something they are selling.

you could visit cairo for the experience - but you wont need sun cream - theres no sun let alone any sky - its so thick with pollution you dont see the sun, its basically all the people of london living in a quater of london are you going on a tour? or back packing it?

good luck!
