Recently misquito's in my area have stopped breeding and I cant get the larvae or anything so I was trying to find alternate live foods when I thought about I could maybe get some earthworms, clean them in warm water so all of the dirt is off of them, cut them open and clean again, freeze, let dry, then feed. Do you think this would be healthy for the fish, anything else I should do in the preperation? Thanks for any help.

ya , ...BANG!! add some salt and pepper to give it that extra taste :good:

So I'll take that as "Good Idea" :)

i've never considered wild caught live food for my fish, but i did for my lizard - the general consensus of opinion then was that it wasnt a good idea - the garden caught food would have been exposed to potential toxins, agro chemicals, and gawd knows what else

your fish may not take too kindly to that sort of food additive...

Yes and No.

Yes you can do it, not you dont just bung them in the tank.

You need to drop the worm in boiling water, that lifts the slime off them, then you need to push the dirt inthe worm stomach out. Once done take a scalpel or sharp craft knife and cut into little pieces.

YUMMY

I've always caught nightcrawlers and fed them to my 5 inch sunfish, channel catfish, and painted turtle for over 2 years with absolutely no problems.

Yea I might do it and I might not, I'll see how it goes.

Hi Loko17 :)

I understand that earthworms are an excellent food for meat eating fish provided you can collect them in a safe place. It's something that I hope to try myself.

I've been told that a good way to prepare them is to wash and then freeze them. Then you can more easily chop them into bite sized bits.

Hey Loko,
Culture your own clean livefoods. All us Killinuts do it.
vinegar eel
microworms
grindalworms
walterworms
whiteworms
vestigal winged fruitfly.
ants
to name but a few.

That is something I would like to do in the future but it can get a little pricey especially on a 13 year olds budget.

I'd a thought it would be exactly in a 13 year olds price range. How much were you Fp.gar.Nig. Lafia from Ruth.
You could probably coax some of them for free. Drop me a Pm and I'll give you a few pointers.
Regards
