Hey Hey,
Any number crunchers among you? My housemate reasonably wonders whether I should be paying more electricity because of the tanks and to be honest, I have no idea really how much it costs to run a tank, I never really thought about it. Is it a very consuming?

I'm just looking for a ball park off the top of your head figure.

30 gallon & 40 gallon
standard fluvals for that size, standard heaters for that size, standard lighting and two 12v/6watt airators

Thankyou in advance if anyone knows that kind of stuff and can be a$$ed to do the math or guestimation, I would try to do it myself but it would be like me trying to do brain surgery... I'm not sure where I would start... (well presumably the head but after that I would be at a loss!)

Cheers

it's really not a lot at all, someone's done the calcs and posted them on here before, but it's actually bugger all for average sized tanks like yours. if you go for something light extra high lighting, marine or other equipment it'll go up a bit but for a 'standard' set up don't worry about it.

:)

Try the PFK website, they have an electricity usuage calculator on there I think...?

G

yeah i think they do, i forgot about that, you need to know the wattage of your equipment though so maybe have to dig out the boxes or get googling.

:)

Thankyou, I didn't think it was that much, Ill have a look at the PFK site or just tell him that until he stops leaving his 100 watt Marshall stack on I'm not taking his question seriously!

Jesus, this house mate thing is getting unhealthy, he actually asked if I wanted him to 'leave the water in' (the bath) on Saturday cos we were in a rush, the really scary thing is that for a minute, I considered it!.. Anyway!

Thanks again for the fast response

If the decision is made that you have an extra contribution for the power for your tank, make DAMN sure you housemate never looks at the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a badge so I could be identified and make friends with other dyslexics but unfortunately they couldn't read it.
