I was trying to stop doing tank top offs, and just doing water changes instead, since I have "the setup" however I find that during the winter, I'm losing 5 gallons of water every other day, with mostly open tanks, and the huge amount of plants growing out of my tanks... the evaporation will never count as water change, but the plants have been growing vigorously, so they are pumping out a lot more water, with the house being dry, so I have relented to topping off the tanks between water changes, at least during the winter months... retirement is in sight, so if / when I have more time, I just may do water changes every 2 days, but besides the time, seems like a lot of water... which has typically been pumped down the drain... I may have to capture it ( or some of it ) for reuse, if I get to the point of just water changing, instead of topping off... at least when I get the 250 set up, ( that will be near our houseplants, so watering them with at least part of the water change water, will at least cut some of the waste... the water is quite clean, with a rigorous water change schedule... I'm wondering if it could be used to fill pasture water tanks... it would be no worse than those animals drinking from a natural pond???

I would have to mindful of medications, but in reality, I rarely use them or fertilizers, etc.

I have 250 gallon tote tanks, that I haul water out to the pasture water tanks... winter would be a challenge, but the other 3 seasons, this seems like a good plan, to pump clean ( no gravel vacuum water, or medicated / fertilized water ) into a tote tank, for further animal usage...

I could make a "docking" station on the back side of the house, and run my pump out water line, outside to that area...
