As I'm living in the thames water area, what will a drought order mean? As presumably aquarium refills doesn't come under essential use.

Curiosity overload :D

I was thinking the same thing, Im getting a 680 litre tank and gonna be changing like 150 litres a week or so !

So I dont know about that, but Will do it anyway !

PLus if you think of it in a way, its like having having a bath once a week ! but I do it everyday

Oh and what are we ment to do, sell our fish ? give them away ? or let them die ? just to use less water ? so i dont think it will affect the use of filling the tank

If they ration your water do you think they will cut your water rates????
And do pigs fly????

Set up some deep trays and large vasses/cups around the garden when the storms build up. Weather like this, the only rain we get is from the storms, so why not use that water?

Has it actually got to a drought order now then? thought the hose pipe ban was as far as it was going 2 go?

A drought order will not prevent you from filing ponds or fish tanks. They are designed to restrict use in things such as showers and car washing and garden watering rather than risk the death of animals.

The Thames Water website ( http://www.thameswateruk.co.uk/UK/region/e.../FAQ_000055.jsp ) states that the filling of ornamental ponds, except fish ponds, may be banned by a drought order.

Filling of fish tanks and fish ponds will be unaffected by such an order.

That would explain it then, although there isn't an order yet it does seem only a matter of when not if.

Thanks again

Your drought order may be alot like our water restrictions. Limit shower times. Don't flush unless brown, no watering lawn or garden, no car washing, restaraunts only provided a glass of water if you ask for it;only full loads of laundry or dishes; oh and my fave we had water police who drove around and reported infractions of no lawn watering and those caught were fined bigtime.

Do you have city water or do you draw from a well, I live near a city well more like a large town but they have city water there, they all get it form the smae source, while me living about 5 minutes from this city, pump my water from a well and can do whatever i like during a draught order. My understanding is water restrictions do not apply to people that pump from wells

Here in Australia we have constant water restrictions. We have water restriction police driving round booking people too hahahah.

I dont think they can ban filling fishtanks. (Just like they cant ban you filling your dogs water bowl!) but you should keep your changes to maybe just 10% weekly.

Even if they do ban it, how could they patrol it? how would they know!

It didn't apply to those of us on well water but most of us restricted ourselves and still some wells went dry.

Fortunatly my well is 600 feet deep (dont ask, its a long story) and if it goes dry most people are going to have serious problems
