I bought some driftwood from petsmart today. The kind they have in their reptile section since all their aquarium driftwood is plastic driftwood. I asked the manager if it was safe for aquarium use because the take didn't indicate either way. She said honestly didn't know but I should sand it lightly, soak it, than test the water using aquarium test kit. I decided to get it since it was a large size for $7. It was worth a try. If it doesn't work out I could always use it for a hermit crab tank.

Have any of you purchased petsmarts reptile driftwood and used it in your aquariums? Did it work out? I'm hoping mine will become water logged from soaking it. If not I'll drill it to slate.

I haven't bought any from Petsmart, but I have bought Driftwood from Petco and they keep their Malaysian Driftwood in the reptile department. I paid about $8 for a decent sized piece there and I've had no problems.

Did yours have a tag or anything on it to describe what kind of wood it was? That's really the key to determine if it's ok or not.

no it didn't

Ah yes the Mac's grape driftwood. I just bought the same exact thing from petsmart a few days ago, not in the aquarium yet though because i'm still in the process of soaking it to get the tannis out and make it sink. I think it will be a nice addition to my new aquarium.
