Oh look.. me again :fun:

I got a delivery today of driftwood & mangrove root. Will be removing a fake log/cave & replacing with these for my Bristlenose Plecos to graze. I'm soaking them but is it necessary? Or is it just about the look of the tank?

Now random tank size question -----

I can only figure out 2 spaces for a bigger tank in my home. One is in our living room but I honestly think this isn't appropriate with a toddler. So this is probably a better option when he's 4 has impulse control. Currently 2.5 yrs old & will hit the tank, throw things at it & in it. Which is why my tank in the kitchen is out of reach. He sits up to look at it with me but I'd never let him at it unsupervised.

So really I've only 1 suitable space in the short term.

It's a long counter in the kitchen. It has cabinets above it so max tank height would be 33.5cm (13 inches) and still allow space to raise/open lid.

I currently have a 60cm x 30cm x 33.5cm (23" x 12" x 13") tank & think I could put this and a longer tank side by side. I could look at getting a custom tank that'd be 110cm x 30cm x 33.5cm. (43" x 12" x 12")

According to the calculator here that'd give me 111 litres or 29 US Gallons. Would this is ok for my 2 Bristlenose Plecos? Or is the height too small for a tank that size to be in any way nice for other fish?

Basically is my custom tank a ridiculous shape so forget it?

I just soak wood to get it to sink. I have a piece in a bucket right now that is determined to float. It's only small but it's been in there for two weeks so far

Re a custom tank, my big tank is custom built by a company that only uses 10 mm glass. It weighs a ton. It took 2 of them to lift it onto the cupboard when it was delivered. Check before buying to make sure your worktop can cope.
Clearseal make some unusual shaped tanks, seangee has a long shallow one. But their lids leave something to be desired and I'm not sure they can take a light - my 20 odd year old quarantine tank is a Clearseal which couldn't have a light in the lid. Seangee has made an acrylic lid with an over the tank light so they are a possibility. See his thread - they make longer tanks as well.

I'd say the counter top can take a good weight but I can't  I've found two places that custom make them so will definitely see about materials used & weight. I'd prefer to buy from a company with good rep.
