Hi all

My tank is fully cycled and now has a good number of fish.

I have purchased some driftwood / bogwood today (3 smallish pieces).

The lady in my LFS said to soak it in water for at least a week before adidng it to the tank.

I have been soaking it all day in a bucket and also my sink, tipping out the old water every few hours.

There is now no cloudiness to the water with the wood in at all.... so could I theoretically put it into my tank now, or is there another reason to leave it for a week.

Thanks

hi,
even bog wood thats soaked for a week will still turn the tank a slighly brown colour,
it wont harm your tank, if poss add carbon. after a few months water changes you wont notice any brown.
donna. :)

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply.

I used to have a 3' tank with two huge pieces of bogwood in but the water never went misty or browny coloured???

I can't remember how long I left that wood to soak though as I was only 11 then... 12 years ago!

Would it be okay to place the wood in then?? I can deal with a little yellowing of the water for a few days I guess as long as no damage comes to my fishes.

hi,
yes its safe to add right away :good: .
i have two large bits of bog wood in mine, they were soaked for a week each and im still getting a very slight yellowing. all the best donna :)

I shall wait until the morning then and add it to the tank.

I dont want to stress out my fish as I have already introduced 3 new fishes today :)

Thanks again :good:

That may help. It really depends on the piece of wood you have. Sometimes they continue to leach tannins for ever and the yellowing never really seems to go away. Other times only for a short while and then it decreases over time. Personally, I like the look.
