Don't Know What To Doo!

I brought a new tank and was going to put shell dwelling cichlids in it, buuut i have put a coral sand substrate in it and i think it may be to course for the shellies to dig etc in, so instead of changing substrate, i was wondering if there was anything else abit different i could put in it, i have already made enquiries in the brackish section i was just wondering.

Its a 2foot rekord 60 (54 litres 11.8 gallons) with big black box in (280lph) and 50watt heater standard daylight juwel tube in monolux hood..

I wouldn't mind having a tank about that size for Dwarf Puffers, they seem pretty interesting.
