Dont Crush Em Against The Glass

What benefits do snails bring to a tank as i've heard a few people saying snails are bad news. I've also seen amed for a fish tank that gets rid of them.

Is there any???

Aww they don't do any harm, mine just eats algae and gets bigger! Give it a name and I bet you ca't crush it! Spongebob has one dont forget xxx

Some snails will eat alge from the glass, Im very happy to say after changing to sand there are hardly any snails in my tanks but if you let them get overrun its difficult to stop them. There are meds which knock them out so you can remove the but some fish dont like these meds (my khulies).

Sorry, I hate them took me ages to get their numbers down. When I first started my tank I let them live but they multiply so fast I dont think you have a choice but to get rid. I had so many at one point there arent enough names to give out.

I have only one blue mystery snail and he lives with the fish in his tank. Snails are a benefit because they will eat up the extra food left on the bottom of the tank. they will also clean up the walls sometimes too. Having only one mystery snail, will not allow for them to reproduce.

Pond Snails (ie Pest Snails) are hemaphroditic and only need two of their species to create millions of offspring over a few generations. They are prolific and can take over a tank. I crush them when I see them, it's actually part of my job detail in my job at the LFS. They aren't necccessarily harmful but are a major nuiscance.

The regular pond snails I feed to my puffer. With the MTS snails I just have to watch how much I feed the fish... when I feed them too much the population explodes. I also have a black mystery snail in one tank, and it does a bang up job on clean up.

I did have a problem with snails but they've vanished recently. All I can think of is someone has discovered a taste for 'la escargot' - I've not lost any fish so not a water issue and the plants are thriving (well I'm cutting them almost as fast if not fast than the grass)...

(Better add in case the wife reads this that her Apple snails are not a problem, just the ones that hitchhiked on my first plants - before I learnt to bleech dip 'em.)

i gave up trying to get them out, i don't want to kill them so i let them be, i had a lot initially but now that's settled down and they seem to stay about the same number, i think they know if they get too many i will have to step in and kill them :)

Have found out from avid viewer on youtube that mine is indeed a tadpole snail and is quite the best one to have....it seems they are known for snail wrestling?

Yeah I had pond snails get into my tank and I'm always picking the little buggers out. I thought the first one I saw was cute and left him there - what a mistake that was!

P.S. Someone told me you shouldn't crush them inside the tank as this can release MORE eggs.

So mine get squished in the sink...

mine go in the goldfish tank- got a pritty large goldfish and he needs roughage!

Hate to break it to ya, but that's his radula scraping algae off the glass of the aquarium. :( But if you want to think of it as kisses, go right ahead :D!
