Don't buy painted fishes!

 I agree it is very important to discourage the practice fo injecting fish. Remeber glass fish are the most commonly injected but some tiger barbs, gouramis and sometimes bettas are all injected!!

YIKEEEEEEEee...I just bought 2 YELLOW PARROT, 2 Blue Parrot, 2 Green parrot. I didn't know they are paint. :-( :-( :-( :-(

Most of the painted (should be called injected) fish die soon after people buy them, from the stress of being injected, put into a pet store tank and then taken home. Its too much stress for most of them to take and the paint fades out quickly anyways. Its a very evil practice and I always want to buy all of the painted tetras and take care of them but that would only help encourage the practice.

Some people on the forum have managed to save their painted fish (usually fish they bought accidentally, not knowing about the practice). There are no guarantees but basically you keep the water absolutely pristine (you need a well cycled tank to do this), feed the best quality food, including plenty of live food, keep the water well aerated and maybe add a tonic like Melafix to cover any opportunistic infections. Gradually the dye wears off and then you have some lovely fish the way nature intended.

i cant believe that people actually do this to fish!!! it seems so cruel & unnecessary surely all fish are beautiful in their NATURAL state & colour. but i know people do buy them in good faith & dont realise what has happened to their finned friends before they buy them
horrible! we need to try & stop it or encourage others not to buy so there is no demand for this sort of thing. why do humans always feel the need to fiddle with what is beautiful in its natural state????

Yes i to agree injecting fish with colored dye is very cruel. i have managed to stop a couple of fish/petsotres around here from buying them, but still it is hard to stop it perminently. :/
