Hey,

I want to buy a .com name thingy (it is a 'domain', right?) for my freewebs.com site and have no idea how to do that!! Can anyone tell me how to do it, wheres best to get one from and how much they cost for a year?

Thanks

I use 123-Reg for mine, they are cheap, but I've found their system easy to use  You get the ability to set up unlimited email addresses and a catch all email and even decide what to do with incorrectly addresses email.

You can point all web draffic to a host (like the free space you get with your isp) in various ways too.

If you can, get yourself a .co.uk or .me.uk as they are cheaper than .com and .net.

So when can we expect www.jessthemadbettabirdhorseanddogwoman.co.uk then?

Arfie

Thank You Arfie :D

Unfortunately its not all about me, although i agree that would make a much better website

shall see if i get that thing to work, i tried using an american one on the freewebs thing and it said it was going to charge me $20 for the year, then suddenly after i'd agreed to that it decided it would add $100 a month ontop of that  So i decided against that one lol!!

Thats when they try to flog you hosting, avoid it, you can get cheaper hosting then most of the domain sellers offer.

Contact Mark and Shiela, I know they've just been researching hosting and may be able to point you to some of them if you need help with that ;)

Ahh, i see - I cant afford that

IU have the website all set up and running :D But just wanted a more interesting name for it and it said i could buy it elsewhere and change it over, i just have to wait 2 months or something

Anyway, have bought that so thank you! :D

jess.com is ready to go

Or you could buy off me for £5 a year lol.... ive got quite a few customers on my server (38 to be precise) and there is guarenteed 99.9% uptime on all hosting packages and your domains are reday within 24 hours :) PM Me if your interested :D

I've bought the domain (before i saw your post BWBettas - sorry lol) but cant work out how to transfer it to my freewebs site thingy.. Im so bad with computers  The only thing i can find to do it cost about £40 - Is that right? I thought once i'd bought it i could just transfer it to any website.. Im so confused!! Someone tell me how to do it please...

a .tk domain you just put in your freewebs address and it just redirects it its so much easier an free

Freewebs will most probably charge for you for 1 year including the transfer of around the price you paid, btw how much did you pay?

£6.09 :)

Shall have another look at the freewebs charges when i get paid

Some Registrars allow you to frame-foward or redirect to a pre-existing site, in much the same way dot.tk does. What registrar did you use? If they are an eNom reseller, then chances are you've got that feature.

I use Registerfly.com (horrible, horrible eNom reseller) and namecheap.com (decent eNom reseller), and I've toyed with the idea of using powerpipe.com simply because I like their prices. A family member has recommended eNom itself, and while I don't question their service, their prices never did draw me.

I also actually own a dot.tk, I'm paid up for a few years. I was free for a little while, but decided that I wanted it to be mine, and so I bought it. That's the nice thing about dot.tk, you can try it on for size, and if you like it, you can make it your own.

I just bought the website address thingy from Arfie's link, and the website is freewebs!! I have no money (literally!lol) so my mum is going to pay the £40 to transfer the name to freewebs, its her website anyway!!
