dojo (weather) loach

I love these loaches!!! I have owned dojo loaches before and they were brown speckled. They grew well(about 9 inches) and were plump. I recently purchased two of these little guys, after they settled in my tank I saw that one of them was speckled grey(dark grey). The grey one doesnt seem to be growing as fast and is not as plump(not annorexic either) . Is it a different kind dojo. He is beautiful, and I would like to get more like him.

There are a lot of varieties of Dojo/Weather loaches around now that are all the same species, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, with a wide variation of colours and patterns. Some of the line bred one are inevitably smaller and weaker due to the inbreeding.

There are also a number of other species of loach which look superficially similar. Difficult to give a definitive answer without seeing them.
