Quick question.....

Would a noisy filter bother fish? Just asking really as have been cycling a tank now for a few weeks. Have been using a small aqua flow 1 filter like this one........http://www.leedspetshops.co.uk/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=573

And it seems to be making quite a bit of noise. Would this bother any fish that I introduce to the tank.

Thanks for any advice

Henry

I was thinking about this the other day. Im not sure they hear as such, but they are very sensitive to vibration. (Hence i try to minimise knocking the glass, my guessing is that it scares the c rap out of them!)

I'm not sure if anyone has studied "how loud" a filter is to a fish, but it would be interesting to know! And whether an external is "quieter"?

Any ideas?

I think the vibrations can be stressful for fish but if its a filter it should be alright :)

I guess, really, we will never know... Its just one of those things, cant see it doing too much harm

I'm made my pump quieter by wrapping it in a towel.

I was also wondering the same thing.

I'll go and stick my head in my tank to see how noisy the filter is if you like lol. :fun:

On a serious note, I've never really thought about that, but I know that my fish don't seem to like it when I have music on loud (especially with the subwoofer).
