I watched a recent video on YouTube by kaveman Aquatics and in one of his tanks he had a zipped bag of bihome media lying on the gravel it was to get the media seeded with bacteria, will this work, and if yes, how long would it take.

That won't be really fast...

I would think it takes a few weeks in a high flow area, to several months in more stagnant water...
