Hi,

200L tank with 7 angels, 2 pearl gouramis, 1 gold fish, 1 zebra loach.

Date: 06-Sep bought 2 small zebra loach from LFS

Date: 07-Sep got 3 pearl gouramis, 3 yoyo and 1 zebra from Jules. I added few big rocks which I collected from local beach for the loaches to hide. They were cleaned thoroughly using hot tap water.

Date: 08-Sep new pearl gouramis and yoyo got nice colour

Date: 13-Sep I was away over the weekend.
Came back on Monday to find 3 yoyo dead :( (sorry Jules, I feel really bad about this one because the fish are dead and more so because I got it from Jules and thought I was giving them good home).
When I came back 1 yoyo had jumped out from back of the tank and 2 were on the tank floor. Next day found 1 zebra loach dead on the tank floor.
I checked the water condition. Everything was normal. Yesterday I saw one zebra loach swimming vertically. I thought there is something wrong with the water or the loach is suffering from swim bladder disease. I started doing water change (last water change done 3 weeks ago). As I was removing water from tank that loach died as well.

So in total I have 3 yoyo loaches and 2 zebra loaches dead in matter of couple of days. This was the worst day in my fish keeping life. I have never lost so many fish so quickly. I worry about remaining 2 zebra loaches that I purchased from the LFS. Are they in any danger at all.
The loaches which I got from Jules were kept in his huge 700L tank. Mine is 200L. Was the tank not big enough for the yoyo’s?
Is there a loach only disease that I should be aware of? Any comment is appreciated. I don’t want any more fish dead in my tank.

Many Thanks.

Can we take a look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What type of rock is it from the beach, did you use boiling water to steralise them.
Did the problems start after the new fish were added or the rocks.

Any signs of darting around the tank, laboured breathing, or flicking and rubbing.
Any excess mucas on the fish, check the gills over to see if they have excess mucas, or red and inflamed.
Any fish look pale or darker in colour.

All nil and ph=7

I collected the rocks from the shore of rocky beach. They are rounded stones. I cleaned them with hot shower water for about 10 mins. Fish and the rocks were added on the same day. Fish died after about a week.

I did see one of the yoyo flicking against the gravel. My wife did mention yesterday that she saw the yoyo's darting around. She thinks she might have even heard one of them jumping out of water. Unfortunately she told this to me after the fish were dead.
I did see any excess mucas or inflamed gills. I did see the yoyo's fins and tails were a bit red but I thought this was just normal colour.

Sounds like there something in the water if fish are jumping.
Darting around the tank can be bad water quality, toxins in the water, overdose of meds, stray voltage, to parasites.
Do you mean you didn't see any slime on the gills.
I would remove the rocks from the tank for now to you know which type of rocks they are.
Rare to have a nitrate reading of 0, what your tap nitrate reading.
Red fins streaking in fins are bad water quality to septicemia.

Look under jumping out of tank and darting.
As it a toxin in your water, or parasites.

Did the rocks you added alter your ph.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.

I climatise my fish for half an hour by leaving the bag in the tank and then slowly mixing the tank water in the bag and finally I just picked the fish and put them in the tank. I did not add the water in the bag in the tank.

Regarding nitrates, I did not do the test myself. My LFS did it for me. I dont have a test kit. Well I have a test kit but it has now passed its expiry period so I didn't use it. I did a 40 L water change and the ph before and after is same 7 - 7.2 which is same as the tap water.

I am trying to access the article using the link you posted but it is not working.

I thought the red colour on the fin and tail is normal. Am I wrong?

Check in the loach part of the forum about the red fins as I have never kept them.
Red fins can be septicemia so need to know if its normal for there fins to be red.
