difference between community and non community

hello everyone.. love this site.. i am very new to this whole thing and wondering if someone can tell me the difference between community and non community fish. I see alot of small non community fish with larger ones... can you put community fish with non community fish??? Does it just have to do with size???

Welcome to the forum

Basically, community fish are small, peaceful fish that can live together in harmony. Cory cats, guppies, small tetras, platys and many other fish fall into that category.

Cichlids, and any others which tend to be aggressive, are not considered community fish.
