Diatom Bloom

Hi

I have a diatom bloom, brown algae type gunk, the tank is only planted probably only a week or so, i understand this is normal in a new tank but does anyone have any idea how long it will last, or even better how can i get rid of it.

Also my water is hazy or slightly milky but it has been like this for about 2 weeks even before i put the plants in, so really same question, any ideas how long it will last.

Btw the tank and filter are brand new and everything in it, its a Eheim 2215 external cannister filter with just the sponge type media that came with it, i still have the carbon in the filter in the hope it will clear the water.

Does anyone have any experience of this or how to get rid both problems, or do i just require patience.

Otos love to eat it. They will clear it up in no time. A group of 6 to 8 should do fine.

If your plants are growing well then cycling shouldn't be an issue.

Went looking for ottos today, cant get any until thursday, but its amazing how quick this stuff takes over, its gotten noticeably very bad in the last day or two, so by thursday it will be party time for the ottos.
