Found a kuhli loach this morning, skinless. The other fish must have been eating him -_-

Two died a month ago from what I suspected was internal parasites. Apparently its common among kuhli loach, especially wild caught. One went really skinny and died and the other went really fat and died. I never treated them for it though. Until now it was all fine but now I'm worried because the other fish must have been eating the kuhli loach in the night although they weren't when I woke up.

What should I do?

All the other fish appear fine.... the rummy nose tetra are bright red...so water is fine

One of my diamond tetra is really twitchy now too - not a good sign...

No one got any ideas?

If you think inernal parasites killed your Kuhlis, then presumeably these parasites have now infected the other fish in the tank...

Time for a course of Waterlife's Sterazin?

I think so, It seems odd that these 8 kuhlis can last a month without any problem at all and then one dies and now another fish is twitchy and has been for a couple of hours.

do you have any experience of "Waterlife's Sterazin"?

Thanks for the help

Not yet, but I do have a 500ml bottle of double concentration in my meds cupboard...

I'm contemplating doing a course in my Rio240 this week, due to the odd flick from my Humpheads and Lionheads on plants and the sand respectively, every now and again.

I've just completed a six day course of Protozin (today is "day 6") and while some fish look more normal (lost strange dark patches in their foreheads), there's at least one Humphead who has a two minute spell of plant-flicking earlier. However, I'm going to give the Protozin another two days before a 50% water change and then see where things are at.

I wish you luck...

Not really sure why I have had a breakout of it... bolivian rams, rummy nose and the other 5 diamond tetra and remaining kuhli seem fine... I'm a bit worried about my two cockatoo cichlids as they're only little but currently seem fine. I guess I'd have to dose the whole tank even if I did have a hospital tank (which I don't..)

apparently you have to reduce the dosage on these things as kuhli loach don't have scales, not sure by how much though

Oh no! Hope the med works. I've never heard of that one.

Is dark patches on forehead an indication of something then?

Dark patches? on what fish caz?

I can't see any of the tetras twitching anymore... -_-

NOTG said his fish had strange dark patches. I asked coz one or two of mine did too.

Maybe you should just try something lighter, maybe the Interpret General Tonic? I swear it did my fish the world of good. Still don't know what they had but it cleared up whatever it was *touch wood*. You can add it when you add new fish as a preventative too.

Cheers caz.. I'll see how things go. Some things like salts effect the kuhlis a lot more than normal fish so I have to be careful

When I saw the "flashing" and what looked like fine gold dots on the Humheads, I was thinking Velvet, which I think can sometimes show symptoms of dark patches on the forehead.
