My nieghborhood is flooding really babdly and I do not think we are going to have power tomarow. I have a battery powered air pump. But for my Takifugu Ocellatus, I do do not think it will be adequete. Any suggestions.

There's obviously not a huge amount you can do, but here are two things.

First, don't feed it tonight. Let the filter remove any ammonia before it gets switched off!

Second, fill a couple of buckets with water ready to do water changes if necessary. What kills fish isn't drops in temperature for a day or two, but declining water quality and insufficient oxygen. Water changes will help here. If you can replace 50% of the water at a moment's notice, you'll have a good backup plan.

It's also worth mentioning that if the power goes out you should unplug any canister filters and remove the biological media to an open basin of water so that the bacteria can "breathe". The last thing you want is a bunch of dying bacteria connected to your aquarium, using up oxygen and pushing out ammonia.

Charlie Foxtrot! The water has gone over the well head and my dumbass father made me dump all the spare water in my room. I only have about 4 1/2 gallons hidden in the closet. The well water is now potentialy contaminated with pesticide. I probably won't be safe adding water for 2 weeks! I think everything will be ok though. We do have a generator, but my dad might not use it for my room , because my fish are not important.

RAIN WAter! Would it work with water conditioner?

I use rainwater in my tanks all the time. Use conditioner, and filter through carbon before use if you want.

Obviously if you live in an industrial city or close to a major highway the rainwater might be too polluted to use safely. But out in the suburbs or country it should be fine. It's "old school", and how people kept softwater killifish and the like before those fancy-pants RO filters were invented.

Cheers, Neale

No power loss! This species has to be the most sinister of all. 5 livebearers I peacock puffer=5 minutes. Still can't refill tank for a while. I turned the fan back on high, so I am going to end up going through a lot of water.
