HI
I have had 2 male silver mollies and 2 females (silver) and also 2 female dalmation mollies, i thought i would get two male dalmations as the silver mollies have had fry but not the dalmations.
so i bought 2 dalmation males and what did they do!!!! chased the female silver mollies and had sex with them and they are still ignoring my dalmation females!
my husband thinks its really funny but i can't understand why the silver males did not go near the dalmation females all the time they were with them and now the male dalmations don't seem to be interested in them either!
Any clues, will the dalmations mate with there own and wot kind of fry will i end up with from a dalmation male and a silver female
cheers

ahhh yes one of the dalmation mollies is quite small compared to the other female phew thats ok then lol
many thanks

Glad to help, mollies tend to take longer than other common livebearers to mature, guppies take around 6-8 weeks where as mollies can take between 12-18 months

also not sure on your setup/tankmates but mollies prefer slight brackish conditions

Wow that explains a lot as i have had the small molly for about 6 months so i think she has a way to go yet, the other dalmation female is a lot bigger but as you say she may already be pregnant by the silver mollies.
Have had 2 lots of silver fry and they are now in a seperate baby tank and my friend is looking forward to having some of them.
I will have to just wait for my dalmation fry lol, its a good job i know people with fish tanks that need restocking or i will have to seperate them!!
thanks again

I have guppies in the tank aswell and the water has salt added as the fish shop recomended it to stop infections as my first lot of mollies did not last long b4 they got a white fur on there bodies, so after telling the fish shop they said they add marine salt to there water as it help keep the infections at bay and it would not hurt my guppies, and touch wood i have had the set up running ok with no miss haps for a good 8 months now

not sure about guppies and salt but mollies do a lot better with salt, good luck with everything and have any problems or questions, especially on livebearers then feel free to PM me, or just for a chat. Just out of interest what guppies do you have, i love guppies :D

lol i know what you mean they are really pretty, i have sunset red males 2 and i have 1 gold ( i just bought him recently and can't remember his full name lol its my age lol) and i have four females with clear bodies and then they go black near there rear and then there tail is bright orange, so am hoping for some pretty fry.
The shop assured me the guppies would be ok and i have not lost any and i have had fry from them so they seem happy enough.
i have added you so if have any other questions or random thoughts on my fish will give you a buzz. thanks again for your help
