we have now been cycling the tank for 45 days , have had almost all our fish in there since day 2

our cobra guppy really faded and was looking grey , could this be a sign the initial cycle is almost over ?

havent had a chance to do a water test for a few days .

i dont see how that could mean your cycle is almost over.

I would test your water and do a 50% water change.

id test your water agin and do a 50%ish water change and just keep an eye on your guppy for any more signs of illness. :D

sorry what i forgot to type was that now his colour is really really coming back , he is looking lovely , i wondered if that meant that we could be nearing the end

i know we did a test 4 days ago and these were the results

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 1.5
nitrate - 50

Looks like you may be getting to the end, but it ain't over until the nitrites reach 0 consistently. Also, your nitrates are a bit high. They shouldn't get above 20 ppm over what your tap water is. So, unless your tap water is 30 ppm it is time for a pretty good water change. How bit is your tank? How often and how much of a water change are you doing?

nitrites are pretty bad, but it shows your cycle is almost over.

guppies are prone too illness, i lost all of mine within 2 months because of inbreeding.

we have a 4 foot tank , we do a 50% water change roughly every 4 days .

could a rock be causing our high ph level? we tested our tap water and it was ph 6.5 , yet in the tank the ph is 8.5 .

Not sure what the rock is except it is white and we bought it at the lfs .

we did lose 1 guppy , he was beautifull , he got fin rot really bad , his tail disintegrated within about 6 hours from normal to gone :( but the others seem to be doing really well.

just noticed our swordtails colour is becoming very vibrant looking :)

just done a water test before we do a water change stats are :

ammonia - 0
nitrite 0.1 mg/l
nitrate - 25 mg/l

ph - 8.5

dont understand where this high ph is coming from , our tap water is 6.5
