hello guys last week i bought a " second hand" jewul rio 240 and im gonna put a bad #16##### snakehead in here with a oscar and my common pleco its gonnna be amazing right this one came with a filter with no media wat so ever the filter is a fluval 305 filter im going out sunday to buy some media in my LFS the worker there said to bring in the filter and he will hook me up with the best media for it but here is the thing he said ill give me two big kio for 3 weeks to get it cycled and then i give them back into store he just said u drop those bad boiz in there and they will start the ammonia in no time but i was thinking is this the fastest way ? i have stress zyme and filter aqua something filter start. no tester kit =/

what i was woundering will 3 weeks with those kio be ok to cycle the tank ? and which should i put into the tank first the snakehead our oscar?

sorry to dissappoint you but a 240L tank is no way big enough for an oscar let alone a snakehead and a common pleco  also you will be needing much more filtration than a fluval 305 for fish like these as they are very messy eaters.

regarding the fish the lfs is prepared to give you its not really a great idea. why not take a read in the beginers section to educate yourself on fishless cycles. this is a much better way of cycling a tank and wont harm any fish in the process. what if the fish die or spread disease in your tank? the filter start may as well go in the bin as it wont do anything for your cycle im affraid all you need in water dechlorinator and masses of it if you go for the fish in cycle.

media wise all you need are filter pads if the filter didnt come with it and something like ceramic rings or balls. there should be no need to take the filter with you just let them know what brand and model it is and they should be able to help you.

do your research and dont let them rip you off as they will try to sell you everything you dont need.

btw its a dwarf oscar that i am getting not a giant snakehead. and the oscar will be in bigger than once he grows a bit and got the common pleco he still only about 4inchs

oscars if cared for right will grow at about an inch per month so i hope you have a 5x2x2 ready pretty soon then. its not just the size of these fish its their bio load on the filter and a single 305 and a small 240L tank probably wont cope very well with these messy fish.

common and in fact all plecos are well know for their waste production and have a huge effect on a filter. oscars are again well known for their waste and for their eating habits that spill food everywhere again causing a large strain on a filter.

i think you need to rethink your stocking plans unless you have a big tank and filter pretty soon.

ok then soo ill just get 1 snakehead and im putting in my common pleco becuase he is in a 56 litre now lol...... so hes defo going in is there anything else i could put in with the snake head ?

might go with orientail ? would u recomend any other ones ?
