When you do water changes do you leave your fish in the tank? And when you clean the gravel and take the fish out do you put them in fresh water that is going into the tank or in the old water you just took out of the tank? I have a friend of mine that puts the fish he takes out of the tank when cleaning in the old water he just removed. I'm just curious to see what others do.

I leave my fish in the tank and use a siphon gravel cleaner to do the water change - this sucks up dirt and debris with the water but doesn't suck up fish.

I never clean my gravel that thoroughly - its home to the beneficial bacteria that break down the fish waste safely. I never change more than 25-50% of the water for the same reason.

i leave the fish in and also use a vacuum. cleaning time stresses out my mollies enough as it is, but to net them and move them, thats too much. they stay out of the way while i clean.

:D i also leave my fish in the tank they seem to no when im going to do water chanfe 1 time week and they move over to 1 side of the tank for me while i clean
also when doing gravel clean i only do half the tank 1 day then 2 days later the other side just incase remove to much benificial bacteria

and welcome hello hope you get on well !!!

I agree with eeryone else in the leaving the fish where they are, the only fish i do remove are my bettas that are in small tanks until i move them to their newly cycled homes. My gravel vac is my best friend with 8 tanks. LOL

Good question. :)

Leave the fish in the tank. They are used to those water paramaters. Otherwise you'd have to have another tank set up with the exact same temp and water params just to put the fish in while you do a water change.

My fish like the water changes. They always try attacking my hand or the "waste" floating up the tube. :D

Make sure you use a dechlorinator in the new water you add and try to keep it the same temperature as your existing water. :)
