Looking for some cleaning suggestions - I had some sort of crusty white stuff growing on my tanks heater. I was able to scrape most of it off with my algae scrub pad. I also have some other white substance on the top of my aquarium hood and top of my filter. I try to wipe it down with a wet cloth, it disappears for a second and then comes back after the hood has dried. Does anyone know what this stuff is or what I can use to clean it? My guess was lime deposit but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!

It is lime or calcium deposits. you can use a straight razor on the glass surface to remove it. It builds up on surfaces that get wet and then dry - heaters also attract it - in my horse water containers - the heaters that I use all winter get quite covered with it and I remove it often to make sure that all is in working order.
