Crazy Pincher Thing In My Tank!

i posted a wile ago that i found this crazy looking thing in my tank. then it went away, well i found it again and caught it in a test tube. its lime green this time and has HUGE pinchers at the head. it swimms by like grabbing its tail then streaching out. what should i do with it? take it to a family owend lfs? or should i keep it in a small cup and see if i can grow it. or both? can anyone tell me what it is? i did a quick paint drawing.

Sounds like some sort of parasite, get some kind of parasite killer in the tank that won't harm the fish and wash the filter and filter media out with BOILING hot water.

theres no filter in the tank, theres no fish in that tank eather, i had some of those Giant pond snails in there hatching for my pond. so im not going to treat it yet until i find out what it is. its only a 5g so il just dump it and scrub it out good. i think im going to take it to my biology teacher at school on monday, and get a good pict under a microscope. but still if anyone can help me id this thing, it will help ALOT

Can you explain the parasite abit more.
Does the parasite have legs.
Does it have a forked tail.

yes, and yes. and its got tan stripes on it.

Sounds like some sort of parasite, get some kind of parasite killer in the tank that won't harm the fish and wash the filter and filter media out with BOILING hot water.

DO NOT do this as you will have to go through your cycle again (well im sure your aware anyways, just making sure!)

yeah, sounds like an insect larva of some sort.

and i have it in a test tube sitting next to me on my computer stand. its kinda cool looking. and suprisingly its still alive
