Hey all. I am probably going to be upgrading my 10 gallon to a 20 gallon pretty soon!

Right now I have 1 betta, 3 WCMs, and a mystery snail. (I love my Sluggo! ) I am wanting to add shrimp for sure (probably ghost shrimp, but possibly bamboo, or amano if I can find them) and was planning on some corydoras. (Either 3 or 4, probably peppered or bronze, but maybe dwarfs if I can find them.) But the Harliquin Rasboras have caught my eye, and I quite like the look of them! I see they need to be in shoals, so I was thinking something like this:

1 mystery snail
1 betta
3 WCMs
3 Corydoras (peppered, bronze, or dwarf)
4 ghost shrimp (or 2 bamboo)
5 harliquin rasborosas

Does that look overstocked for a 20 gallon? It will have sand substrate, and I am going to try the planted thing again, though I have never been able to keep plants alive!

Is your tank currently heated? Assuming it is, adding a shoal of rasboras would not put you at overstocked. I think it will be just fine. :)

It doesn't make you overstocked, so you so be just fine =) The only thing I'm thinking about is the temperature, I believe WCMMs are sub-tropical fish, where as the rasboras would be fully tropical. The cories I don't worry about so much coz they do tolerate lower temperatures as well (read: sub-tropical temperatures). It might be worth checking out if that would work or not.

Hm, ok. Right now the tank isn't heated, but I live in Florida, so it stays warm. The new set-up will probably come with a heater, so I would have the option.

Oddly, I had a pair of ghost shrimp once, back when everything I knew about fish was from trial-and-error with fish from Wal-Mart. >_< Though the fish didn't always fare too well (Pleco and 3 angelfish in a ten gallon, anyone?) I had extrodinary luck, and had 2 gouramis, 2 female bettas, and 2 guppies living together peacefully once, and had those 2 shrimp for the longest time.

I will see what I can do about the temperature. Maybe if I put the heater to one side, would that side be warmer, and the fish can hang out where they are comfortable, or is that a daft idea?

It's slightly daft (no offense! ><) only because the filter runs the water through and keeps it all about the same temp. There may be a 1 degree difference, but doubtful. Rasboras would need warmer themps ie - heater. They prefer 76-78 degrees.
Erised is right WCMM are sub tropical - Im not sure if they would do okay with heat or not - maybe some other members will have input on that! HTH
