Hi all,

My poor little panda cory appears to have lost his barbels. Will they grow back? We have gravel as the substrate which has proabably caused the problem :(

Sounds like a bacterial infection that set in most likely. Cories are prone to this (and recently learnt) especially with gravel as it collects debris more than sand. There may be some regrowth or tissue regeneration but from what I have read it is unlikely the barbels will grow back. Best to keep an eye on him and make sure the gravel is kept very clean, also plenty of water changes to stop any further infections setting in and perhaps to help any regrowth that may occur. Someone might suggest treating but unsure myself. Is it the one panda on its own or are there others and are these affected?

They will either grow back, or you cory will die.....Ive learnt the hard way......3 times...

but more than 4 survived, and are swimming around happily,

You need round gravel for corys. As sharp edge gravel can wear the barbels down.
