can you put used coral rock that has been in a marine aquarium for use in tropical aquariums(obviously dead rock and its not been used in some time although it is stained green).
The same stuff that you use for cichlids or will it be bad for the fish as it alters the PH

I think coral will raise the PH, which I think is fine in a marine setup, but in a tropical setup its generally not good (depending on circumstances).

Agreed, unless you are keeping fish that prefer a high PH (african cichlids for instance), or have extremely low PH, you don't want to add anything that will alter your water chemistry.

These things can be good for fish who like high PH, eg. Lake Malawi Mbuna.

However, most fish (and plants) in a freshwater community would not thank you for it. It really all depends what fish you are going to keep. Any ideas?

yes its not me its my friend someone gave me a load of coral rock for my marine and there is loads left over and after seeing it he likes it. I think he wanted a planted tank havent a clue what fish he wants maby tiger barbs and black sharks i think he mentioned bu he could easily change his mind
