Hey all, I was just wondering... I would like to convert my tank to saltwater, but I have a few fish still, that probably wont like it... I was just wondering if anyone knows if my fish could live in a saltwater environment... I have the following:

Neon Tetras
Black Skirt Tetras
Penguin Tetras
Sunburst Platies
Cory Cats
Pleco

I bet they wont, but at least I am tryin! :p

Thanks!

Neon Tetras
No.

Black Skirt Tetras
No.

Penguin Tetras
No.

Sunburst Platies
To a degree, about SG 1.003, maybe slightly higher. Platies don't come from brackish water habitats, but they tolerate slightly salinity rather well.

Cory Cats
No.

Only very slightly, to maybe SG 1.002, in the case of standard Hypostomus and Pterygoplichthys species. Other plec species, no.

Cheers, Neale

Ok thanks much!! I wont buy any new fish, and wait for all my fish to pass on. Or maybe I will get a 2nd tank! hehehe...

And since I am not changing it up, I decided to redecorate when I cleaned today! Check it out!

O and I have since straightened the new fake weeds at the back :p

Your setup looks very nice. I like the lighted bubble wall you have at the front. Our LFS just got those in.
I got a second tank myself^^ lol and I have a 3rd ..a 20 gal thats sitting empty atm. If I don't sell it soon, I may be putting fish in that too hehe^^

thanks :D I have to check with the wife first before I buy more tanks! :p And I need some more space to put one! a 5 or 10 gallon would fit on my computer desk, but I donno what marine stuff would live in that.

lol I have to approve all my tanks with my boyfriend so I totally understand. ^^ I kept pestering him about the 55 gal and he finally gave up and said sure hehe.

Well, it seems the fish heard me thinking about changing their environment... My Penguin tetras have ich, so I treated my aquarium... a couple that were in the early stages seem to be getting better. The other ones dont want to eat. Also, I found my Pleco as hard as a rock, on some of the fake plants. :( And my platies are not hungry either.... So this may be a sad reason to switch to saltwater.... Not how I planned at all =( I do hope they get better! I even tried to make their home nicer for them with new decorations and such! :(

I will keep posting to update on what happens!

Awwwww! I do hope your fish get better! I switched to a brack tank when ich hit my tank hard as well. But I do hope that your fish get better!

Well, for the big update!

2 out of 3 of my Penguin tetras died (I only found one getting sucked into the filter, maybe the other fish ate the other one), and my Pleco died, i guess from the treatment? But my Black skirts are fine, and my neons are fine, and so are my cory cats. My platies are still at the surface just sittin there, but when I feed them they go for the food, so they have not lost their appetites...
So today, I need to do a water change, as per the ich treatment instructions.

I just have a quick question... Can I add more fish today, or should I wait to see if the ich is completely gone, or what? I would like to get a pleco again... He was my favourite! that guy cleaned my tank so well! :p

I would give it some time to make sure no more fish get sick or you'll be spending more money replacing more fish. I'm a fan of being safe rather than sorry I guess^^
