considering a plant

wanna try out in a tank but I have two that i'd prefer to try it in, one is a bare bottom 20gallon fry tank, and the other is a 5 gallon hex betta tank with a ug filter both are lit only by a single halogen desk lamp, other choiceas include a 90gallon with herbivourouse cichlids 2 ten gallons with ug and a 60 gallon with partial ug (plates are in but tubes keep popping out so only half is running) could somone tell me if a plant would work in any of these? and kinds? preferably edible
