I am thinking about buying a Compact USA Satellite Power Compact to replace a DIY light fixture I have on my 45 gallon (36" wide) planted fish tank.

My question, does anyone out there have this brand light fixture? How do you rate it? Does the lunar light provide decent "moonlight"?? I was going to build my own moonlight, but was curious if this 1W light really does anything?

Thanks

What's the spectrum of the bulbs? If they're not intended for aquarium use your best to stick with Daylight bulbs. Regular compacts give a really yellowish gold appearance whereas the Daylights give off a white light that is more beneficial for plants.

Actually, yes, I will be using Daylight bulbs, but I'm curious if anyone has had any problems with this brand light fixture and if the "lunar" light provided enough light at night to see anything.

I have a 96 watt Coralife CF strip on my tank and I love it.... Mine is a 6700k Daylight bulb, but I think 6500k ones are more common... The only drawback to the 6500-6700k bulbs is that they do give off a sorta yellow/green tint to the water.
I put a 50/50 30 watt strip in behind the CF strip and it whitens up the color of the water nicely.

SoilGuru, if you can, please post a link for the light/fixture your referring to. Once I can see it, I can give you my thought's on it, as can others here.

Looks good (if you're into buying a light). The 6700K/10000K is good for plants. It seems to me my old PowerGlo's were 10000K, and I had good results with those. I believe in your other thread you mentioned it was the 2x96W you are considering. The wattage is more than sufficient. I couldn't see any real info or specs for the moon lighting. Perhaps try asking about that in the hardware forum if no one here has used the moonlighting.
