My boyfriend and I set up a 10 gallon tank about, eh, 2 weeks ago. And I washed all the rocks and plants and such. We added the chlorine remover and the clear water stuff ( To make the water clear ) and we added some aquarium salt, and the Tank Buddies PH Tablets. I noticed that the water was very cloudy, and it kinda made me upset considering we set up a whole new fish tank, and the water looks cloudy. Now that we've had the tank for about 2 weeks, its still cloudy even after we've cleaned it. What could be the problem? I read somewhere that you're not supposed to put the aquarium in direct sunlight because it increases algae, I thought maybe that was the problem, but the aquarium's not in direct sunlight. It's sitting in front of a window, but it has blinds so the sun's not shining through the window all the way.

EDIT: It's the aquarium in our signature..

Well if that's your tank in the picture....do you have a filter on it? I don't see on in the picture i just see an aerator.
Also you don't need to add water clear stuff. This can cause difficulties in your fish tank. I would suggest doing a 25% water change, you haven't done any already.

We've been doing the water like many places have told us we can do, and that's taking 20% of the water out of the tank and adding fresh. But I think I'd rather just take everything out of the tank and clean the plants and rocks and add all new water, but my boyfriend takes care of that part, so he's in charge of that, and no, we haven't gotten a filter yet = (. I was thinking that may have been a possible factor also. So if we get a good filter it should clear up?

I would suggest getting a filter up and running, this should help your tank start to cycle. Also when you add on the filter consider doing a 50% water change, to get some of the additives out that you have added. Have you tested your PH in your area? If so what is it? Do you have a testing kit for nitrite, nitrate and ammonia by chance? This will help with evaluating future problems.

How often do you feed?

I see your tetra-min tropical flakes sitting by the tank. Do all the fish just get feed that? Are those mollies still in with the betta?

I bet u need to put a filter in it because when i got my tank it didn't come with a filter so the first couple of days the water was cloudy :good:

Ok, we went and got a filter the other day, and the water looks a lot better. And no, we didn't feed all of our fish that same food. Just the mollies. We don't have that food anymore because our cats ate the whole bottle. We feed the bettas brine shrimp, blood worms, and a betta flake food. And yes, the betta is still in with the mollies. When we purchased him they had him in with mollies of a different color and he didn't bother them and they didn't bother him and he's doing perfect with them now. But we feed him seperate from the mollies also.
