OMG someone must help or advise at least, so....

cloud (betta) is in a 25Litre tank with an elite heater (25watt) and a elite mini filter (flow has been incredible redused for him) so anyway the states are....

ammonia 0.5 (slight green tint but not enough for .25)
nitrite 0
nitrAte is between 10 and 15 (water changed yesterday i think caused it to drop so)

tanks temp is normaly at 27 today it was above 30!!!! i twisted the nob on the heater and the little light didnt go of! so im assuming the heater is damaged!

so what ive done so far....

ive turned the heater of, im going to keep monitoring his tank untill advised, i will turn the heater back on when it drops to cold, i do have a option but need advise first!

i want to move him to the 60 Litre tank, there is others in there
2 guppys
2 corys
1 dawf plec thing
1 ballon molly

now cloud has been with them before and has been fine with them but im abit unsure on trusting him in there i dont want him to bully or be bullied, so does anyone know where on earth i get a divider from??? what are they ?? where do i buy them from? thanks!

Hi, sounds like the thermo stat has got jammed in the on position. Do you have a spare breeding trap or something like that to put him in? If you don't, you can go to your lfs, and most will have a breding net/trap and some will have a divider. If there is no time to go to your lfs, what I did when one of my glow light tetras turned on his tank mates, is I got a large water bottle, rinsed it thoroughly, took the cap off, took the label off, cut the bottom off, punctured some holes in it and just slid it over him and buried its base securely in the gravel, but that was a tetra, not a betta. But, if you go to your lfs, you can probably buy a new heater there (it's probably more expensive to get your one fixed than buy a new one).

I would buy a new heater for the tank if you can, he should be ok for a few hours without the heat whilst you go and get one perhaps wrap the tank in bubble wrap to keep the heat in. I wouldn't transfer him to the community tank as the move may stress him out.

see i thought about that but when your skint its a problem, i dont get paid untill friday :( im going to have to put some games into cash lol, anyway i dont think him being moved is a good idea as he is bloated and has some odd fugus infection atm aswell....poor cloud isnt very happy :(

omg there was no heater small enough to go into clouds tank :( i looked in all 3 shops but couldnt find one....ive noticed he has gotten worse aswel :(

HE REJECTED THE PEA!!! i tryed and tryed again, but he just flares at my finger and swims away :( to top it all of, he is so swollen now that his scales are starting to go white in colour where the bloating is :( im really scared i dont want to loose cloud!! please advise someone!!!

Can you not heat the room instead of the tank for a few days - might get a little warm for you but the fish would be ok ( I dont run a heater at all March to October).

Also have you looked at the biorb heaters - you can use them in normal tanks as well as the biorbs and they have a 25w version.

well, at the mo ive managed to get his tank heated but its at 31 degrees at the mo, is that safe? i mean him in hiself he is fine, very active and coming to the front of the tank aswell, but he is still bloated....but beside that he is ok, so is this temp safe for him? or to high....?

Thats way too warm, 27C, or 29C when breeding them.
Just move him into the other tank if you havent already done so and get a new heater. You could even get a 5 or 10 watt heater.

ok but heres the problem, how can i feed him the pea without the others in the main tank trying to get it aswell, are you sure i wont get away with it for a little while longer? i mean ive kept him in this for today and overnight so far, im worried he may have an infection which he may past to the others...hench why ive been hesitant to move him over before his bloating gos away....or do you honestly think i should just move him over?

Well you dont want to risk the other fish catchin anything off cloud. Do you have a heatmat? I got a heatmat off ebay for £15, and i use that in my male tank well i put it under the tank with a peice of feltly towel inbetween the tank and heatmat and it stays at a steady 26. My heater broke on me in my 21l and i just used my spare heatmat. So try get a heatmat then when you get payed you can get a proper heater. For now, i'd lean a hot water bottle against his tank and refill that when it gets cool, thats if you have a hot water bottle? You could also wrap the hot water bottle in a blanket to keep it warmer then put it against the tank.
One of my bettas has lived without a heater for over 3 days. Just she wasnt as active.
Tweezers, do you have any? You can feed pea off that and dedicate it to the one fish, its upto you if you decide to move him but i think it will stress him out, and maybe infect the other fish.

thanks for your input, atm ive managed to rig the broken heater to 30 degres, would seem that the toggle nob on the top works to an extent that i can slightly alter the temp, i cannot seem to get it to go any lower and im worried that if i try to i may break the toggle nob on the top, i have a warranty with elite so im going to try contact them tomoz, he has taken the pea today so hopfully he will stop being bloated, im intent on trying to get a divider for the 60litre tank aswell, want to move him there asap so if anybody knows where i can get one from that would help! thanks for all the advice so far guys!!

But then even with a divider hes still in a tank with the other fish and he could spread infections?

well, this is the thing, im not sure he even has an infection? either way i just had a look seems the tank has gone down to 29degrees now! i think it had something to do with the sun glaring at his tank....anyway

how long does it take for a pea to take affect to help him poo? his is so bloated his scales are starting to push out :( and there all white under them...im still really worried and wont be able to keep an eye on him tomoz as im of to work at half 6 and wont be back untill 5 :(

Hi there, sorry to hear the situation hasn't been resolved, is there any chance that you can put a pic up of him? as it sounds as if he may have dropsy instead of constipation, this is very difficult to treat I'm afraid :-(
