Ok so I'm in the process of cloning my new 12g breeding/quarrentine/ spare tank.

I took a well bacteria covered sponge from my main tank filter and put it into the filter of the new tank and have been adding household ammonia for the past 3 days.

the ammonia levels have been going down and both nitrite and nitrate levels up, which is good.

My question is- do i keep adding the ammonia and wait for the levels to be the same as with fishless cycling? (as in no ammonia no nitrite and around 40ppm nitrate)

or

because the bacteria is already established and showing it is doing its job how long do i wait for the tank to be ready so that i can add fish?

any help appreciated

love

The best thing to do is to take the new filter on the small tank and run it on the main tank for a couple of weeks then put it back into the new tank and it will be all done.

Well they haven't done this and its not point going back...since that defeats the point of cloning.

Yes, i would do this just to be safe. Its just like fishless cycling but takes less time :)

Hope that helps
