Hi guys,

Just need a little advice.

I am going to get a new tank, a larger upgrade for my 10g tank which has my Betta and 4 Corydoras.

I am either going to get a 24 x 12 x 15 inch new Clearseal tank which is about 15g or an Aqua One 620. The Aqua One 620 is apparently 90 litres and is second hand however it does not come with a hood but this wouldn't matter as I have my own clip on light and hob filter. I would just like to know if anyone else has one of these tanks and could advise me if the one in this photo has a damaged plastic lip on the back left top corner.

Would you go for the safer option of a new tank or a second hand larger capacity tank.

ideally i would go for the bigger tank. i have a ar620 and its a great tank but without the lid it loses its in hood wet and dry filter which is quite good. also the 1 in the pic has got some damage to the corner the rim is the same all the way around or should be :good:

Ah mattlee, I thought it looked a bit tatty in that corner. I guess I'll go for the Clearseal. Only problem with Clearseal tanks is that they have an inside lip stretching down either side of the tank, gets in the way when using HOB filters. Guess the filter will have to hang on the side instead!

Thanks,

as far as i know the glass strip is to sit the hood on so the one at the rear could be easily removed with a blade. if you arent having a lid that is

I managed to "pry" the glass strip of my current tank to sit the HOB filter on the side. It did leave some residue on the glass, silicone I'm guessing! I think I will try the HOB filter on the side of the tank and see what it looks like, if it's unsightly I'll remove the glass strips. I use a condensation tray as my lid with a clip on light so hopefully that should be ok!

Thanks for the help!

After reading up mattlee on some forums, apparently them glass strips prevent the tank from bowing. I've sent an email to Clearseal asking if that is there primary function or whether it is just for practicality with a hood or condensation tray. To be honest I think the HOB filter could sit on the side of the tank with no problems.

Thanks anyway.

i guess it makes sense about the bowing. better to be safe than sorry :good:

If you have not bought the Clearseal tank yet, thought I'd let you know that Pets At Home sell a range of "barebones" Clearseal, including 30"x12"x15" for £32-99....

Thanks for the thought Nobody of The Goat. I have in fact already bought my new Clearseal. I didn't buy it from Pets at Home, I've vowed to never buy from them again after buying 2 new Panda Corys and them dying within hours of putting them in the tank. My good LFS had it in stock so I bought it from there instead! After all that I didn't have to remove the glass braces and the HOB filter is sitting nicely on the side.

I know it's a bit late now; but I had a 30" clearseal tank for 9 years; I bought it second hand and my boyfriend has it now. It's nothing fancy but does the job :)

Yes they do the job very well dipsy. My Dad has a 3ft, 2.5ft and several 1.5 ft clear seals. I have a 3ft and now a 2ft. They aren't bad like people make them out to be! We have never had a leak, guess they just need to be treated well like everything else in the world of fish keeping!
