Cleaning Gravel

I am moving my fish into a 4 ft tank.

I needed some more gravel. I got some second hand gravel. I gave it a very good clean, cause if was really dirty, but I can't get rid of the smell.

how do you get rid of the smell, before I put it in the tank?

Try boiling it for a good 10-20 minutes, you really should do this anyway unless you are using the gravel to stabalize a tank in need of good bacteria.

the smell is because its full of bacteria.

is the tank brand new and uncycled? if so the gravel would offer a nice bacteria boost to help it through the cycle
