hey people,
i found i really cool peice of drift wood on the beach the other day and it would look awesome in my tank but how should i clean it? dont want to risk anything so has anyone got any ideas??
thanks

you cant use sea driftwood on freshwater tanks if thats what your thinking of doing. anywase just boil it and scrub it good then let it soak in a bucket for a week.

i kinda have the same question, but oi know your supposed to boil it.. but what if its too big to boil :|

Scrub it really well with a stiff brush to remove loose bits. Boil it ( I boiled mine for over an hour to be safe ) or if it's too big put it in a container and pour boiling water over it. Let it soak in boiled water for at least an hour, adding water as needed. Sand off any rotten bits and sharp edges. Then let it sit in water so it will get waterlogged.

I've had driftwood in my tank for about 1 year now and a green algae has grown on it. Just wondered if the algae would come off if I dipped it in boiling water.

I sometimes use an exacto knife and various blades to cure the wood first, then I scrub and boil/wash it.
