ive got some bogwood for a brackish tank but i thought this would be one of these useful topics to many members so i thought id put it in here.

ive got 3 peices of bogwood for my brackish tank im doing (head to the brackish forum u can read about it there :)) ive bought myself a 30litre stock pot and have been boiling these bloody things for around 6 hours!!!!!!!!!! the water has been changed twice and the water is getting slightly lighter but there is still tanis obviously leeching out. question is how long should i boil something like this for obviously i need ALL the tanis out as soft water is bad for brackish tanks.

most people on here will use wood in freshwater tanks though so what is the proper procedure for getting all the tanis out of bogwood? provided you dont need it for soft water fish anyway.

I just soak it for about a month.
This will not take out all the Tanins but shouldn't buffer
your Brackish tank much. You could try adding coral sand
which will keep your water hard and alkaline.

i have aragonite sand so thats not a problem

im just sure that i heard boiling it worked better than anything else was just hoping someone else had done it and could shed some light on it :good:
