Whilst in the pound shop at town today i saw a lot of these large clear plastic storage boxes for toys etc. I was wondering if you could use these as fry tank if you added filter etc, as this would save a lot of money...

I'd say yes you can because all a fish tank is is a container, its just see through so you can see the fish. As long as there is all the neccessary things such as filters, heaters etc. should be perfectley fine just won't be able to see the fish as well.

these were clear aswell so if i needed a grow out tank before selling/ giving away fry i could set one of these up, it even came with a lid, may have to get one next time im in

Some people on here use those for growing out fry, to the best of my knowledge
there's never been any problems and the bins work pretty good.

You'll want to check the kind of plastic their made of  . I would personally only go for boxes made to keep food for human consumption in, some plastics are toxic and would harm the fish.

I also think that if the plastic isn't strong enough it would bulge out a lot, so make sure it is really strong. Also I think you'd be better off using a screen lid rather than the plastic ones.
