Hi,
First i have to tell you that the people working at my LFS don't know much about fish. They even don't know what they are selling.
Can you identify these fish for me? The guy at the store said they where tetras. What kind, ??????

Here's a picture of them

Thanks

Automatically I will say they dont look like tetras, they look like a kind of rasbora to me. I've never seen that species though, i'll have a quick look on google :).

Edit: After a quick look, it seems that Rasbora borapatensis is an option, though I'm struggling to find a good picture for comparison. The one below is the best I can find so far...

Are they red tailed rasboras? Rasbora borapetensis

Three-fingers beat me to it - yes I agree I think that's what they are.

Well i think you are both right. They are not tetras. I have 5 of them. Oh well they are very nice anyway. LOL
They don't seem to be popular or common. Finding a decent picture was hard.
Found this one and you where right

There where some black neon tetras at the lfs and they didn't have the red on the tail and a more plump. Mine look just like the last picture i found on the web.

What website did you get that info from, it's a little wrong so you may want to stop using it :) .
My largest black neon is 2 inches (maybe a teeny bit more), and i would never dream of keeping them in a 3gal :good: . Just so you know that site is'nt too reliable :)..

chipie, that's a nice fish

Yes they may not be tetras but i think they are pretty nice. The picture i took of them myself doesn't do them justice. The second picture is more like it.

The only thing that maybe i don't like about them is that they grow up to 3 inches i think. Oh well, i'm getting a new 60 gallon tank next week so they'll have room enough to swim. They are very active and swim in a tight group. Nice....

They are definately not tetras as they lack an adipose fin (the small fleshy fin between the dorsal and caudal (tail) fins) which all tetra species have.

I guess this is a web site to avoid then:
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/characin...ckneontetra.htm
in all honesty i don't use it, I thought the pic looked like black neon's, googled it and that was the 1st site to come up, i then did a copy and paste,I looked at the pics but I didn't check the info   sorry guys it was very late and i was sooooo tired :zz

I can say with 100% acuracy they are indeed
Rasbora borapetensis
