i have a 72 gal tank with balloon mollies and reg mollies and a gsp about 2 inches.
my sal level is like 1.003! which is low but as i hear suitable till my gsp gets pretty big!

how much salt can freshwater fish take??
can i add some freshwater fish to my tank??

and what would be the best new tankmates for my fish?
i have like 7 fish all together and thier all mollies expt the gsp and one male guppie.

Given that your GSP will need strongly brackish water within a year's time, there is really no point in adding any freshwater fish. Remember, fish age much faster than people, so he will be a young adult before very long.

If you really want to add more fish, then I'd recommend adding more mollies--but not balloon mollies. Puffers are known to be fairly nippy and balloon mollies really don't swim well enough to handle that sort of attention.

thanks! i have had my puffer like. . . 5 months and hes been fine so well see what happens i really like my baloon ones. ill see about adding some big mollies do they have a certain name or how big do mollies get??

As mentioned there is no point adding other fish, the Green Spot Puffer will need to go up to a high brackish water within the year or so, so adding fish you will need to remove again seems utterly pointless.

I disagree; there's no reason that she couldn't add more mollies as they do better in brackish and can be acclimated to full marine conditions.

As for big mollies, try looking for "sailfins".

Yes but once she starts moving the Puffer up to full saltwater the mollys i dont think would handle it.

thanks guys!!! ya i believe they can be all SW! but i wont be making my water quit ethat strong lol. just a higher end brackish is fine for them to live in. what salanity is salt water??? 1.025?? mines at 1.003 now and i was thinking like 1.015 being as high as i would make it?
