I currently have a ten gallon with 6 danios, three male platies and one female platy. I would like to add some female platies, as I know the ratio is way off. (When I bought the platies, there were only four, and I thought all four were male.)

Could I add some female platies to balance out the males? How many can I add?

ETA, I was hoping to add 3 otos and I might be switching the filter to a better one so that it is overfiltered.

If you added enough females to balance out the gender ratio, you would be looking at 2-3females per male, so at a minimum you would need another 5females which would overstock the tank. A 10gal though doesn't offer enough room to have a decent all-male group though as most people advise at least 5 males for an all-male group, but they would be too stressed with each other in such a small tank, soo...
I would either do this;
a. Rehome 2 of the males and replace them with 1-2 females.
b. Rehome all of the males and just have an all-female group
c. Rehome the single female and hope the males are ok with one another in their current numbers (although i don't really advise this that much).

I think options a. or b. at the best :nod: .

I think you are pretty well filled to capacity right now. 10 gallon tanks are pretty small and even if all your fish stayed at 1" you would be slightly overstocked and I know all the fish are not going to stay that small, so over time you are going to be considerably overstocked. In larger tanks it is not as big a problem as small ones because there is more area for the waste to spread itself out in. I am slightly overstocked right now, but am planning a move to a 30 gallon sometime in the next couple months and since two of my fish are tiny, tiny I think I'll be OK until then. If you get a better filter you might be able to get away with one or two more fish, but still I think that once the fish you have are mature you are going to have your hands full. I personally wouldn't put any more fish in the tank.

I agree that you might want to find a way to switch out the male platys and trade for some females or rehouse them in some way so the ratios could be better.
