I knew it was against my better judgment, but I bought three gold lyre tail mollies over the weekend. Sorry, but I have this thing againt live bearers. I just cannot seem to keep them alive. I also bought three more black skirt tetras and a snail. All went into the same 55gl tank. The male mollie was floating on top and dead within an hour of me putting him in the water. (I let them sit for over an hour in the store bag before letting them go.) One of the females the next morning was COVERED with fungus. Cotton on her lip, and her tail seemed to be rotting off. It was very obvious. The other female proceeded to sink to the bottom. I removed all of them since I cannot take the chance of loosing my whole tank.

None of the others that were just purchased are showing any sign of illness. Did I buy sick fish and did not know it? Or, can they get that sick, that quick? I have never had this happen before.

They could have been sick to begin with. But hopefully you would have noticed this in the store. I would say float your fish for about 15-20mins. Once you get home, try not to go to much longer. How many f fish do you have in your tank and how long have you had your tank running?

They have columnaris.
Did you add tank water to the bag.
Always check ph of the bag to the tank ph, and temp this way you no how long to climatise a fish.

They were in the tank bag floating for about an hour. Yes, during that time added a little bit of the current tank water. With the speckeled coloring it's hard to tell if they have ick, etc... but this was major fungus, which was not obvious when I purchased. They came from Petsmart, not the lfs.

Tank has been running for about four years without a major problem.

(55gl) Residents are: Sailfin Pleco, Albino Rainbow Shark, 6 Black Skirt Tetras, 3 Tiger Barbs, 1 Mystery Snail, 1 CAE, 5 Jumbo Neon Tetras; and 1 large male black veil angel. Actually, to look at it tank is quite bare.

Awful to say, but I cannot keep bettas or anything live bearer alive. Guess I am jinxed???
