Hi! I'm new to this forum and I'm seeking advice.

My greedy fat fantail goldfish keep nipping at my African butterfly fish. The Fantails don't do it on purpose rather, they mistaken them as food. Will this stop eventually or are my African Butterfly fish in danger?

Regarding food, I did some research and found out that African Butterfly Fish are picky eaters. Will it just take time to them to adjust to eating flakes?

my african butterfly fish eat prima. i have to put it in near them and they eat it before it sinks. the shop i got them from fed them this so they were used to it

African Butterfly Fish need calm tankmates that are not going to stress them by either nibbling their long spindly fin rays, or by tankmates aggressively feeding at the water surface. It sounds as if your fantail is not playing nicely with your ABF, but the combo does sound rather odd, as your ABF needs a temp of 23C, which is rather high for a goldfish all year round. My two ABF currently share a Rio240 with Golden Wonder Killifish; African Bushfish; Upside Down Catfish; Pyjama Catfish; Brochis.

"butterfly fish needed to be feed live food." [best panto voice] Oh no they don't! As Stewardsons mentioned, they will often adapt to died floating food such as Tetra Prima; Hikari Cichlid Gold "baby" pellets (my pair's favourite); Cichlid XL/Doromin floating stocks brocken into small bits. My two also enjoy defrosted bloodworm, but it is a game of trust, as my pair need to trust me to pipette drop from directly above their mouth.

Thank you so much! I plan to take back these ABF to where I got them. I had to make a choice whether to keep them or the Goldfish, but due to the goldfish's sentimental value, I had to pick them. The ABF look so cool though, is there any other fresh water exotic looking fish like the ABF that get along with Fantails?
