i am visiting my dad this week and his pond has some sort of moss in it thats name i cant figure out. i dont have pictures right now but will be able to post them on saturday when i get back.
im not even sure if it is moss but its like a carpet that covers the whole pond. (it has been growing untouched for many many years and has become extremely thick) at first glace it looks slightly like algae except that it has tiny yellow flowers growing on the top. (thats how i knew from a distance that it wasnt algae.) pulling out the individual strands, i discovered they are very thin and strong and have little bead looking things all along them. the frogs in the pond just sit on top of "the carpet."

anyone have any ideas? sorry for the bland description. i will have pics soon!

Pics are a must and I cant wait to see them. :hyper: Do the "flowers" (not acctually flowers but the term works fine) extend above the water? Are you sure its moss and not a vasular plant? What part of the world is he in (or more likely the state considering that there is very little emigration to Alabama). I'll do my best to find info on any submerged mosses for you but I am currently trying to catch a standby flight (to Alabama) So no promises.

What it sounds like is a species of bladderwort. Some bladderworts look a great deal like hornwort with bladders attached (they are the size of the head of a straightpin) and others look a lot like a piece of green string with some bladders! Some have these yellow flowers, others have purple flowers. They are great plants unless you are trying to raise egglayer fry. My first tank had a huge wad of bladderwort and the guppy fry loved it!
